The mental game in football
Confidence after mistakes
One bad touch, one missed chance, and the head drops for the rest of the match. We build confidence that survives errors instead of collapsing with them.
The pressure of selection
Playing not to be dropped is a different game from playing to express yourself. We work on performing freely when every session feels like a trial.
Recovering inside the match
A goal conceded, a poor decision, a difficult crowd. The best players reset in seconds, and that reset can be trained.
The step up
Academy to first team, youth to senior, local to elite. Each jump brings new expectation, and we prepare the mental side before it arrives.
Leadership on the pitch
Being the player others look to, whether or not you wear the armband. We develop the composure, presence and standards that let you lead a team when it counts.
Communication that lifts a team
How you talk to teammates and coaches, and how you carry yourself on the pitch, shapes a whole performance. We build clear, confident communication that steadies the players around you.
How I work
My work is grounded in Acceptance Commitment Training and the Chimp Paradox, and it follows one principle: understanding before tools. We start by getting to the root of what is really going on, build a clear picture of why the mind reacts the way it does under pressure, then build skills that hold when it matters.
As an HCPC registered Sport and Exercise Psychologist my practice is regulated and held to a professional standard, and I am also DBS checked, which matters when the player in front of me is young. I work online with footballers wherever they are, and every new client starts with a free 30 minute call. No pressure and no obligation.
What football clients say
Real quotes carry more weight than anything I can say myself.
I have noticed a big shift in my game since the new year. I have scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, my team is pushing for promotion, and I am the second top scorer in my league.Footballer
Antonio adapted his approach to supporting me when I became injured, and helped me feel like I could still develop as a footballer by focussing on skills such as leadership even when injured.Academy Footballer
