Tennis Sport Psychologist
Helping tennis players manage the lonely scoreboard, steady the momentum swings and meet the big points, from junior competition to the tour.
Experience in tennis
Tennis is where my own story began, and where I have worked up to international competition.
- Competed internationally as a junior, training in a London academy and playing in Spain, Italy, Croatia and the United States, including the Orange Bowl
- Worked with high level players, including wheelchair tennis
- Supported clients competing on the junior ITF circuit and the women's tour
- Draws on my own experience of the junior pathway, and the pressure of stepping away from it
The mental game in tennis
The lonely scoreboard
No team to hide in and no coaching mid match. We build the ability to manage yourself when it is just you on the court.
Momentum and the mind
A few loose points and a match can swing. We work on steadying the swings and holding your level when the momentum turns against you.
Between the points
Most of a match is the time between points. Where you put your attention there often decides how the next one goes.
The biggest points
A second serve at deuce, serving for the set. We prepare you to step towards the big points instead of shrinking from them.
How I work
My work is grounded in Acceptance Commitment Training and the Chimp Paradox, and it follows one principle: understanding before tools. We start by getting to the root of what is really going on, build a clear picture of why the mind reacts the way it does under pressure, then build skills that hold when it matters.
As an HCPC registered Sport and Exercise Psychologist my practice is regulated and held to a professional standard, and I am also DBS checked, which matters when the player in front of me is young. I work online with players wherever they are, and every new client starts with a free 30 minute call. No pressure and no obligation.
What tennis clients say
Real quotes carry more weight than anything I can say myself.
My son is a 10 year old tennis player who competes in tournaments regularly. Antonio has helped him better understand the psychological side of tennis and given him practical tools to manage emotions, pressure and expectations before, during and after matches.Parent of a young tennis player
The sessions have definitely helped. She is so much more relaxed and enjoying matches. Before, she would beat herself up when she missed shots, but at her last match she just moved on. It is lovely to see her happy on court again.Parent of a young tennis player
